Blueberries grew everywhere in Hartland and were an important part of the cash crop of local farmers into the 1940’s. The abundance of high-bush blueberries early in the 20th century created such a demand that the Connecticut Park and Forest Commission charged 50 cents per day for permits to regulate picking in the Tunxis State Forest.
