Tunxis State Forest & Falls Brook Falls

Tunxis State Forest first land purchase was in 1923.  It now covers most of the northern part of Hartland.

Barkhamsted Reservoir and Saville Dam

Built 1930-1940 and the valley was then flooded.  This marked the end of Hartland Hollow/Center as a place of habitation for the living and the dead.

Goodwin (Hogback) Dam and Reservoir

In 1955, the Metropolitan District Commission completed the Goodwin Dam constructed at a narrow gorge on the West Branch of the Farmington River known as “The Hogback”. Dedicated in 1961.

Farmington River

From the Goodwin Dam to the New Hartford/Canton town line designated a Scenic and Recreational River in 1994. In 2019 with addition of the confluence with the Nepaug River it became a Wild and Scenic River.
